Tennis and Rockin' Blues featuring One-On-One Doubles Tournaments were a hit at the 2007 USPTA WORLD TENNIS CONFERENCE! One-on-One Doubles Tournaments were played in conjunction with the Marcel Anton Rockin' Blues Band, on September 18th, at the Saddlebrook Resort, as part of the USPTA WORLD CONFERENCE ON TENNIS. This year's tournament was headlined by Hank Pfister, who was ranked as high as #19 in the ATP in 1983. The tournament format was played in both the 9-point tiebreaker format and in the Superbreaker format for the Semifinals and Final rounds. The 3 One-on-One Doubles tournaments were completed in two hours of play-with live rockin' blues happening at the same time and with the band set up in-between the courts!

One-on-One Doubles Junior Tournament at Harvard

Coach Ed Krass was welcomed back to Harvard, on July 6th, as he introduced the new game of Tennis to a group of 24 New England junior players. The players were treated to a Round-Robin, Tie-breaker tournament up to the Semifinals and a variety of Rockin' Blues music that was played throughout the tournament. The finalist was Federico Ochoa and the Champion was Dushie.

Dave Fish, Harvard Head Men's Tennis Coach, stated "We played a One on One Doubles Tournament at The Tennis Camps at Harvard, and our kids really enjoyed it. I was amazed at how enthusiastically they tried this serve-and-volley half court game. If this had just been a practice, without shortened scoring (we played tiebreaks instead of sets) and music, many of them would have moaned and groaned through the exercise. Instead, they tried and won, tried and lost, and laughed much of the way!"

We just hosted the $4200 One-on-One Doubles Tournament at the USPTA/FLORIDA CONVENTION held at NAPLES GRANDE on Sat.,6/1. The tournament was rained out, so we decided to move the tournament "indoors" in one of the resort's ballrooms. We put up a net, made the lines for the new game, and we had a ball!

All matches were played one-match-at-a-time, in the old 9-point tie-breaker fashion/format. We had a 32 draw. We had the Marcel Anton Rockin' Blues Band perform as the players competed for the title.

The finishers were:
#1 - John Boungon - $1000
#2(Finalist) - Ross Dubins - $800
#3 & #4(Semifinalists) - Chuck Gill and Scott Ehlich - $600
#5-#8(Quarterfinalists) - Pat Sheehan, Greg Neuhart, Norm Schellinger, Dave Freiman - $300

Boungon defeated Dubins in a 10-point, super tiebreaker, 10-3 for the title!
Thanks to the innovative idea of the USPTA/FLORIDA for wanting to play our new game in "Ballroom" style!

SADIK KADIR, from AUSTRALIA, defeated Kelly Jones, from U.S., 8-6 in the finals of our College and Pro One-on-One Doubles played at the 2007 USTA MEN'S FUTURES CHAMPIONSHIPS on May 19th at the Harbour Island Athletic Club and Spa, Tampa, Fl.
