DOUBLES TENNIS COMES TO HARVARD UNIVERSITY
Coach Ed Krass was welcomed back to Harvard, on July 6th, as
he introduced the new game of Tennis to a group of 24 New England
junior players. The players were treated to a Round-Robin, Tie-breaker
tournament up to the Semifinals and a variety of Rockin' Blues
music that was played throughout the tournament. The finalist
was Federico Ochoa and the Champion was Dushie.
Dave Fish, Harvard Head Men's Tennis Coach, stated "We played
a One on One Doubles Tournament at The Tennis Camps at Harvard,
and our kids really enjoyed it. I was amazed at how enthusiastically
they tried this serve-and-volley half court game. If this had
just been a practice, without shortened scoring (we played tiebreaks
instead of sets) and music, many of them would have moaned and
groaned through the exercise. Instead, they tried and won, tried
and lost, and laughed much of the way!"

ONE-ON-ONE
DOUBLES TOURNAMENT AT THE 2007 USPTA/FLORIDA CONVENTION
AT NAPLES GRANDE, NAPLES, FL
We just hosted the $4200 One-on-One Doubles Tournament at the
USPTA/FLORIDA CONVENTION held at NAPLES GRANDE on Sat.,6/1. The
tournament was rained out, so we decided to move the tournament
"indoors" in one of the resort's ballrooms. We put up a net, made
the lines for the new game, and we had a ball!
All matches were played one-match-at-a-time, in the old 9-point
tie-breaker fashion/format. We had a 32 draw. We had the Marcel
Anton Rockin' Blues Band perform as the players competed for the
title.
The finishers were:
#1 - John Boungon - $1000
#2(Finalist) - Ross Dubins - $800
#3 & #4(Semifinalists) - Chuck Gill and Scott Ehlich - $600
#5-#8(Quarterfinalists) - Pat Sheehan, Greg Neuhart, Norm Schellinger,
Dave Freiman - $300
Boungon defeated Dubins in a 10-point, super tiebreaker, 10-3
for the title!
Thanks to the innovative idea of the USPTA/FLORIDA for wanting
to play our new game in "Ballroom" style!
